A disciplined approach to investing

CW

Our investment philosophy reflects how we think about capital, not what we buy. It is designed to preserve wealth over full market cycles and to avoid the behavioural errors that erode returns over time.

01

Risk before return

We begin with risk, not with the pursuit of return. Understanding what can go wrong, and under what circumstances, is the foundation of sound portfolio construction.

This does not mean avoiding risk. It means taking risk deliberately, with eyes open, and in proportion to the client's capacity to absorb it.

02

Asset allocation over prediction

We do not attempt to predict short-term market movements. History suggests this is unreliable at best, and damaging at worst.

Instead, we focus on asset allocation: the deliberate structuring of portfolios across asset classes, geographies, and risk factors. This is where the majority of long-term returns are determined.

03

Effective diversification

True diversification comes from owning assets that behave differently across market environments, rather than simply holding a greater number of investments. By allocating capital across a broad range of asset classes and geographical regions, portfolios are better equipped to navigate changing market conditions.

This approach does not simply mitigate risk. It can also enhance the resilience of portfolios and allow exposure to return opportunities beyond traditional equities and bonds, including areas such as real assets, infrastructure, commodities and other diversifying exposures. The objective is to build balanced portfolios that experience smoother performance, smaller drawdowns and more consistent outcomes over time.

04

Long-term orientation

We manage portfolios with a long-term horizon. This allows us to tolerate short-term volatility in pursuit of durable returns, and to avoid the costs of excessive trading.

Patience is an investment discipline. It is not passive, but it requires the conviction to stay the course when markets are noisy.

Independence is the structural condition that allows this discipline to be sustained.
